The Book: Steel & Ice (L & J)
The Author: Emily Eck
Page Count: 239
I just finished the book and my jaw has still to come up off
the floor. I am so pissed right now yet so intrigued by the ending. I need to
know more! My mind is so blown, I need a second to gather my thoughts! Ugh!
This was definitely a great book! If you know anything about the streets or
what it’s like to struggle and survive in a dangerous city, you’re definitely
going to be swept up in this book like I was! Hell, I still am swept up! I hope
the next book(s) give a strong character build up and understanding for all of
the other characters in the book and damn it I want to know more about J. I’m
so fascinated by the two main characters! The main character, Elle, has one of
the sexiest personalities ever! The man that she develops the hots for easily
matches up to her. One hell of a sexy couple who definitely love to explore and
surrender to each other sexually! I couldn’t get enough of their sex life! I
normally steer away from rebellious ‘street’ books. Growing up with all of the
street business in my face makes it a sensitive area for me. This completely
changes everything. I fell in love with the characters right off the bat!
Elle’s bold badass yet totally soft ways and J’s mysterious ways about him. The
main character (Elle)’s two best friends are a freakin’ riot! The other
characters play their parts pretty well too. The writing is raw and incredibly
unique. The characters are well developed. I feel like a third party in the
story, watching as everyone goes about their business. After finishing up my
Psychology class a little over a week ago and learning about my own behaviors
and why I am so alert and aware of everyone and everything, this book
definitely hit home for me. It explains the main character’s life including her
past, present and future. The details give you an in depth understanding on who
the main character truly is. I’m used to reading books that are completely
fiction but this book went on a whole new level when it comes to realistic. I
guess it’s because the narrating makes me feel like I’m having a conversation
with a close friend. The writing is cool, upbeat and discusses life in a
relatable now-a-days type way. If you don’t understand what the author is
saying, keep reading and she better explains or creates a trend to make things
all come together. At first I was a little confused on the slang but then it
just became normal. I knew exactly what was being expressed later on and things
that I read earlier, clicked. The story really picks up and explains J a hell of
a lot more. The first sex scene completely caught me off guard! The humor all
through the book was intriguing and kept me fully interested just as much as
the story line. The clever aspects and different unique approaches really
pulled me in even more. This author is amazing at multitasking the different
characters! I noticed some people didn’t enjoy the dialogue in reviews in other locations. This book is about
keeping it real. I love that part the most. I must say some of my favorite
parts are the wise cracks and the Chappelle Show episode recalls. I think I
laughed harder reading about them then I did when I watched them on the show. If I could claim one chapter as my favorite, it would be chapter 10. The need, the love making, the feelings, the stress. It’s all the perfect combination. Truly a great book and the start to a great series! I can't wait to read more!
