I Don’t Want to Be Your Guru, But I Have Something to Say

Book Title: I Don’t Want to Be Your Guru, But I Have Something to Say
Author: Joyce Shafer
Pages: 64

I am in love with this book. Sure, there’s a story around the big message in the book, but I am in love with the big message the book is sending. It’s basically a book about how to be a better, stronger, and more successful you, without the loads of overwhelming facts and aggression. This book doesn't focus on what you’re doing right or wrong, it focuses on what everything is and why it is. It allows you to form your own opinions on what you need to take from the book and how you can apply it to your life. Plus, the book is mainly in dialog, as the main character goes back and relieves the day she met Old Bill and shares the deep, powerful, and completely life altering discussions they had.

The book starts really good and as it continues, peeks a big interest. As the story continues, anticipation kicks in. The whole reason for showing up was to see Old Bill again. What happens after showing up, is nothing like what A.J, the main character, expected. The urge to learn more and find out what A.J. will hopefully find out is killing me.

It then goes into a lot of detail on how A.J. first came to meet Old Bill. I am really enjoying the country type feel in the words that are expressed. It makes things seem so laid back and relaxed. The way that Old Bill speaks, his words are so full of wisdom. The story sounds like that of a diary or journal. Yet, most diaries or journals are full of emotions and feelings, this is full of inspiration words and insights on life. It’s truly wonderful.

There’s a cute amount of humor built into Old Bill’s personality. I’d say my favorite chapter is four. It has so much insight toward the world and life. I kind of want to throw this book at my college philosophy professor, because it seems to gather better questioning toward everything than any of my course books ever did. This is my favorite line, ever:
“What this makes me wonder,” he said as he speared a piece of pie, “is if maybe every thing is sound–like lots and lots of musical notes in a universal symphony.”
It paints such a captivating picture! It makes me wonder if his logic has some truth behind it.

I love how the author expresses a thought, applies a theory, and then explains it in a way that the main character and reader can understand. Some authors like to only allow the information to relate to the character, rather than also allowing it to make sense to the reader. This is reason enough to want to read this, if you haven’t already. Plus, it answers a lot of questions people have and allows for more thoughts to come about for consideration. I think one of the best parts of this book is the difference between activity and productivity. It may help those of you who are caught in a situation, problem or addiction and give you the insight on what it will take in order to make a change.

There’s a deep part in this book that a lot of my friends and I have been discussing a lot lately. The topic is energy and being so strongly connected that you can feel each other to a level. I have certain friends that text me, asking me what I want. Simply because they can feel me thinking about them. It’s an intense connection. This book explains a little on why that happens. It’s so fascinating. I will be sharing this book with all of my friends in hope to enrich and empower their lives a little more. A lot of it is things we could easily realize if we just think about it, but the wording and how the author paint a picture brings everything to a new light. Please, go get your copy now! It will change your life!
